Shusui in Haze Seas - Boss Combat Weapon

Complete guide to Shusui - A-tier First Sea weapon for boss combat.

Shusui Overview

Shusui is an A-tier weapon found in the First Sea, specializing in boss combat. Named after the legendary cursed sword from One Piece's Wano arc, Shusui is the best weapon available to players before reaching the Second Sea. It offers solid damage, a useful skill set for boss fights, and serves as a reliable stepping stone toward endgame weapons like Enma and Yoru.

How to Get Shusui

Shogun Boss Drop

  • Source: Wano-inspired Shogun boss on the First Sea
  • Drop Rate: 15% per kill
  • Spawn Time: Every 8 minutes
  • Boss Level: 150 (recommended level 120+ to fight)
  • Details: The Shogun is a sword-focused boss with fast slash combos and a devastating AoE slam. He drops Shusui at a 15% rate, making him one of the most farmed bosses in the game.

Farming Strategy

  1. Join a server with low player count at the Shogun spawn
  2. Kill the Shogun when he spawns
  3. During the 8-minute respawn timer, grind the nearby Samurai NPCs for XP and Beli
  4. Repeat until Shusui drops
  5. Expected kills needed: 5-7 (on average)

Trading

Shusui can also be obtained through trading for approximately 200,000-300,000 Beli equivalent. However, since you can farm it yourself in a few hours, trading is usually not worth it.

Farming Efficiency Tips

  • Server hop: If 3+ players are camping the Shogun, switch servers. Competition reduces your kill count per spawn cycle
  • Off-peak farming: Shogun spawns are uncontested at 2-6 AM server time
  • Level advantage: At level 180+, you can kill the Shogun in under 20 seconds, maximizing kills per hour
  • Pre-position: Stand at the Shogun spawn point 10 seconds before the 8-minute timer expires

Shogun Boss Fight Tips

  • The Shogun has 3 attack patterns: fast slash combo, AoE ground slam, and a lunge
  • Fast slash combo: Block all 4 hits. He pauses for 2 seconds after - your damage window
  • AoE ground slam: Dash behind him during the slam animation for free back attacks
  • Lunge: Sidestep and punish. The lunge has 16 recovery frames
  • At level 120+, the Shogun does manageable damage. At level 180+, you can face-tank him
  • Buddha fruit makes this fight trivial - stand still and trade hits with Guardian Stance

Move Set

M1 Combo (Basic Attacks)

Shusui's M1 combo consists of 4 katana slashes:

  1. First Slash: Quick horizontal (900 damage)
  2. Second Slash: Reverse horizontal (950 damage)
  3. Third Slash: Downward diagonal (1,000 damage)
  4. Fourth Slash: Spinning finishing slash (1,200 damage, slight knockback)

The full M1 combo deals 4,050 damage - respectable for an A-tier First Sea weapon. The 4th hit has a wider arc than the first three, making it useful for catching side-stepping opponents.

Skill 1: Dragon Twister

  • Damage: 2,000
  • Cooldown: 10 seconds
  • Range: 8 meters (spinning slash projectile)
  • Description: Slash in a circular motion, sending a spinning wind blade forward. Dragon Twister travels slowly but has a wide hitbox and lingers for a moment at its maximum range. It is effective at catching side-stepping opponents and decent for AoE damage in PvE. The slow travel speed is a liability in PvP against fast opponents.

Skill 2: Autumn Rain

  • Damage: 1,200 per hit (3 hits) = 3,600 total
  • Cooldown: 12 seconds
  • Range: 6 meters (multi-slash in front)
  • Description: Execute three rapid slashes in a downward rain pattern. Each slash has a slightly different angle, covering a wide area in front of you. Autumn Rain is your primary damage skill - the multi-hit nature makes it effective against bosses and groups alike. The fast execution makes it useful in combos.

Skill 3: Sword God's Strike

  • Damage: 3,200
  • Cooldown: 16 seconds
  • Range: 7 meters (targeted lunge)
  • Description: Lunge forward with a powerful thrust. Sword God's Strike has moderate range and deals heavy single-target damage. The lunge covers distance quickly, making it a gap closer. On hit, the target is knocked back 4 meters. This is your combo finisher and your most reliable way to deal burst damage.

Combo Potential

PvE Boss Combo

  1. Dragon Twister (approach + damage) > M1 x3 > Autumn Rain (burst) > M1 x2 > Sword God's Strike (finisher + knockback)
  2. Expected damage: ~9,000 - 11,000
  3. After Sword God's Strike knockback, use the distance to reposition before re-engaging

PvP Standard Combo

  1. Sword God's Strike (lunge + damage) > M1 x3 > Autumn Rain (multi-hit burst) > Dragon Twister (catch them if they try to escape)
  2. Expected damage: ~8,000 - 10,000

Shusui + Black Leg Combo

  1. Black Leg Mouton Shot (gap close) > M1 x2 > Autumn Rain (weapon burst) > M1 x2 > Black Leg Concassé > Sword God's Strike (weapon finisher)
  2. Expected damage: ~10,000 - 12,000

Shusui + Buddha Farming Combo

  1. Buddha Palm (AoE) > M1 x3 > Autumn Rain (multi-hit clear) > Dragon Twister (remaining NPCs) > Sword God's Strike (boss damage)
  2. This rotation clears camps efficiently and deals solid boss damage

Upgrade Path

First Sea Upgrade: Shusui Refined

At the First Sea blacksmith, you can refine Shusui for 50,000 Beli and 10 Iron Ore:

  • +10% base damage on all attacks
  • Dragon Twister travels 20% faster
  • New visual effect (brighter blade glow)

Second Sea Upgrade: Shusui Honed

At the Second Sea blacksmith, further refine Shusui for 100,000 Beli and 5 Cursed Steel:

  • +15% base damage on all attacks (stacks with Refined for +25% total)
  • Autumn Rain gains an additional 4th hit
  • Sword God's Strike now applies a brief slow on hit

Enchantments

  • Searing Edge Enchantment: Adds fire damage to Dragon Twister (300 per tick for 2 ticks)
  • Gale Force Enchantment: Dragon Twister travels 40% faster and has a wider hitbox
  • Keen Edge Enchantment: +12% critical hit chance on all Shusui attacks

Gale Force is recommended for PvP (easier to land Dragon Twister). Searing Edge is better for PvE farming (additional AoE damage).

Shusui is the most balanced of the First Sea A-tier weapons. It does not excel at any one thing but has no significant weaknesses.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Best First Sea weapon for boss fights
  • Balanced skill set works in both PvE and PvP
  • Obtainable through dedicated farming (15% drop rate is reasonable)
  • Clear upgrade path extends its viability into mid-Second Sea
  • Autumn Rain provides reliable multi-hit damage
  • Sword God's Strike serves as both gap closer and burst finisher

Cons

  • Outclassed by Second Sea weapons (Enma, Yoru)
  • Dragon Twister is too slow for high-level PvP
  • No armor-piercing or special mechanics like Enma's Haki Drain
  • Medium swing speed is outpaced by faster weapons in PvP
  • Replaced by Enma or Yoru once you reach the Second Sea, making the upgrade investment temporary

Best Pairings

  • Fruit: Magma or Buddha - Magma benefits from Shusui's boss damage in farming rotations; Buddha's tanky playstyle pairs well with a balanced weapon
  • Fighting Style: Black Leg - versatile fighting style that works with Shusui's balanced skill set
  • Race: Any - Shusui is a generalist weapon that does not depend on racial synergies
